Spring in the Okanagan
April – May
The Season Most Tourists Miss
Spring is the Okanagan's best-kept secret. The orchards blossom white and pink in mid-April — one of the most beautiful things in BC that almost no tourists see. The valley smells extraordinary. The tasting rooms are quiet. This is the Okanagan without the crowds.
Orchard Blossoms
Peak blossom is usually mid-April, though it shifts a few days year to year depending on the winter. Drive the Lakeshore Road south of Kelowna or through the Similkameen Valley for the most dramatic views. It lasts about two weeks. Do not miss it.
Winery Touring
- Tasting rooms are quieter — staff have more time, conversations are better
- Spring releases are happening across the valley — new vintages just opened
- No reservation needed at most wineries in April and May
- Ask our concierge about current spring release highlights
Markets & Outdoors
- Kelowna Farmers & Crafters Market typically reopens in April — worth a Saturday morning
- Hiking trails opening up: Bear Creek Provincial Park, Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park
- Vaseux Lake (near Oliver) — exceptional birdwatching during spring migration
- Golf courses opening from late March onward
Make the most of the quiet season.
